Man United vs Man City betting odds
Manchester United host Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, kicking off at 4.30pm, and the two sides arrive in very different states.
Enzo Maresca’s City have been close to flawless. Nine points from three league games, a 2-0 win at Porto in midweek and just two goals conceded in four matches across all competitions. Erling Haaland has three in three, Rúben Dias and Josko Gvardiol look settled at the back, and with 71.9% possession per game – the highest in the league – City tend to decide how a match is played.
Michael Carrick’s United have four points. A 5-2 win over Ipswich showed what they can do going forward, but there was a defeat at Hull before it and a 2-2 draw at Everton last Sunday, where they gave up the lead twice and conceded in the final minute. On the statistically easiest opening run in the division, that’s a poor return.
There is a case for United. Their 7.29 xG is the second highest in the league and no side has taken more shots (68), so the chances are coming. They’ve also gone two home derbies unbeaten, winning the most recent 2-0 through Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu. The snag is rest: City played Tuesday, United didn’t finish against Sabah until Thursday.
City are favourites at around 47%. The market expects goals with Both Teams to Score heavily backed, but that doesn’t square with recent history. The last five derbies have averaged two goals, with both teams scoring in only two of them and one finishing goalless.
If you fancy the fixture living up to its billing, the goals markets are priced for it. The recent form book says otherwise.
